Oil Workshops Course Description: For all three upcoming workshops listed below, the emphasis will be on UNIFYING A PAINTING. We will concentrate largely on UNIFYING A PAINTING by working on achieving color harmony. This will not be a "color workshop," as I don't believe that color is THE most important thing in a painting. However, color harmony is many times the thing a person who views a painting will love about it and not even realize it. We will not be using a "mother color" and adding it to every color we mix; instead we will focus on learning how to"bend a color." Once you have learned how to do this consistently, a color will throw up a red flag that says "OUT OF HARMONY" once you add it to your painting. This will be a very exciting thing to focus on! Mother Nature is very unified - we just have to find further ways to unify our landscape paintings! Also in the workshops, composition, focal point and ways to lead the eye around the painting will also be stressed to further unify a painting. Also, we will be taking a look at our work and asking, "What can I do now to make this a better painting?" rather than, "Did I stay true to the photograph?" or "Does it look like the photograph?" Departing from your reference might be one of the most important things you can ever learn, and will add to your signature style coming out so that your paintings will be YOU and recognizable to others as YOURS. There will be daily demonstrations in all three workshops.
