"The Past Lives On"

I have painted Mission San Jose in San Antonio, Texas, many times and will never tire of it. I painted this on a recent Oil Painters of America trip and it was pretty cloudy the whole week. There were a few minutes that the sun came out while I was painting the Rose Window, above, and I seized the opportunity to put the shadows in really quickly. I used a very limited palette on this painting of mainly Yellow Ochre, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, Winsor Lemon and Titanium White. The day I painted this was "school day" at the mission, so I had plenty of company.
