"Out in Front for Fall"

Image Size 15 x 22

I painted this on Arches 300 pound paper in my studio from several watercolor studies I did in Estes Park, Colorado, at the height of the fall aspens. There were a lot of deer around, but I decided not to include deer because I wanted to just give the viewer the effect I was seeing of the blazing colors. The deer might have distracted from that and become the center of attention. I tried to make the foliage around the central aspen on the left more powerful than the rest of the foliage and surround it with more darks also. This was really fun to paint, and there are many, many transparent layers of paint on there!
