"Glancing Back"

Image Size: 15 x 11

I loved the pose of this deer as he was glancing back at me while I was taking his picture, so I used him in my snow scene. This river was on Bear Lake Road in Rocky Mountain National Park in March. I added aspens where there were pines, and, of course, added the deer. I began this as a demonstration for my watercolor class and used only three colors for most of the painting: ultramarine blue, raw sienna and burnt sienna. At the end of the painting, the snow needed a little livening up and I glazed a little with cobalt blue, cerulean blue, and viridian green. I love using a limited palette like this!
