"Cold Feet"

Oil on Linen Canvas

I wanted to get the effect of a soft sunlight streaking through the snow and didn't want the deer jumping out at the viewer right at the beginning. There are many times when a deer is still and I don't even see him at first. In fact, I almost named this one, "Now You See Me," but a collector of mine suggested "Cold Feet" and I liked that! I made the stream lead to the deer and also the tree on the right bending in slightly is a pointer to the deer. I used a very limited palette with mostly "deer colors" to unify the painting. This is one of my favorite oils I've done lately.
